The World English Scrabble Players Association Champion 2015-2017 and Mind Sports Ambassador, Mr Wellington Jighere invites all and sundry to his maiden Scrabble Classics. The Wellington Scrabble Classics is a precursor to the Akpabio Classics which is also a precursor to WESPAC Kenya. Announcing the 9th Godswill Akpabio International Scrabble Classics

The 9th edition of the prestigious Scrabble Championship will be held from 27th to 3oth of September 2017 at Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State, South-South Nigeria. The tournament will be chaired by His Excellency, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio (Pillar of Scrabble in Africa) and hosted by the Executive Governor, Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel. Asaph Zadok National Scrabble Championship 2016

The Asaph Zadok National Scrabble Championship is slated for Friday 15th – Sunday 17th April 2016. Arrival is Thursday 14th April. Games commence on Friday 15th April. A total of 24 games will be played over a three day period. Friday – 9 games, Saturday – 9 games and Sunday – 6 games. Venue(tentative) – National Stadium Package B. Participants are selected from qualifying tournaments from participating states. Each State is represented by 4 players with 2 reserve players. The Championship will produce the National Champion  who will receive a  Gold medal (and a Green Jacket) plus  N 150, 000.00

Nigeria Set for ASC 2014

Top Nigerian Scrabble players and officials have arrived Cape Town, South Africa venue of the 11th edition of the Africa Scrabble Championship. The event starts from the 25th of October and ends on the 28th of October, 2014.  The team led by President of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation, Alh Suleiman Gora is expected to repeat Nigeria’s dominance of the game in Africa by retaining the trophy won at the 10th ASC by Rex Ogbakpa the defending champion who is also a member of the current team. Nigel Richards wins the 8th Godswill Akpabio International Scrabble Classics

The 8th edition of the Godswill Akpabio International Scrabble Classics was concluded on Sunday the 28th September 2014. Current Scrabble World Champion Nigel Richards became the second non-Nigerian to win the coveted prize. He carted home the top prize of twenty thousand US dollars $20,000 after 28 games. He won 21 games with a total spread of +1797 points. Former African Champion Jighere Wellington came second with 19 wins and +807 spread while Olatunde Oduwole came third with 19 wins and +739 spread. Alfred Butts Club wins 3rd Interclub Championship

Alfred Butts Scrabble club are the winners of the 3rd National Interclub Scrabble Championship. The Abuja based club named after the inventor of the game won 19 games and lost 6 out of 25 rounds and amassed a total of +3446 points to dethrone the defending champion Warri Scrabble Club (won 16, lost 9 +3361) who placed second. Rex Ogbakpa wins 10th ASC

Nigeria has won the 2012 edition of the African Scrabble Championship held between the 22nd – 26th of November in Livinstone Zambia. The championship (the 10th edition) was won by Rex Ogbakpa a member of the Nigerian contingent which consisted of 12 players and 4 officials. 4 countries competed at the tournament viz Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and hosts Zambia with a combined total of 49 players. 6th Godswill Akpabio Classics

The 6th Godswill Akpabio International Scrabble Classics will be held in Uyo,  Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria from the 27th to 30th September 2012. Kogi Scrabble Open 2012

Winners Winners emerged after 15 games were played in the three categories Masters, Open and Veterans. In the Masters category, Etim Nsikan of Akwa-Ibom State emerged champion with 12 points +1338 to take home a beautiful plaque and the grand prize of N170,000, while Eromosele Samuel of Edo State had 12 points +642 to  win the first prize of N100,000 in the Open category.
